Advice for New moms

22 tips to help you through motherhood

Being a mom is one of the hardest jobs out there. I jumped into motherhood the moment my husband and I got married when I became a stepmom to a 5-year-old little girl. Later that year, we had our first son, and we are now raising 5 children in our home.

There are many things I wish I had learned early on in motherhood. It’s such a gift to raise children, but it’s also one of the hardest jobs in the world… That’s why I decided to join the internet community—to share some of the things I’ve learned throughout my own motherhood journey and to help moms navigate their own.

Here is my advice for new moms:

#1

Follow your heart, gut, intuition, spirit… Take time to educate yourself on important decisions so you can feel confident about your choices.

#2

It’s okay to feel like you have no idea what you’re doing.

#3

Spend time learning new things every day (how to take care of your baby, how to set up a routine, how to balance motherhood…)

#4

Schedules or routines can be your best friend! For you, for your kids, for your spouse! (We use these charts to help keep track of daily needs and cultivate teamwork in our home!)

#5

When something isn’t working in your home, you may have to get creative—Try something new!

#6

The dishes can wait. But have a plan in place for cleaning so that it doesn’t overwhelm you.

#7

Know that all of us moms have struggled. We are all learning and growing through motherhood!

#8

Your choices may be different than mine, and that’s okay. We are all trying to be the best mom we can be!

#9

Accept help (from your kids, from your spouse, from neighbors, friends, etc.).

#10

Go with the flow (something my own mom taught me).

#11

Learn from other moms who inspire you!

#12

Be careful to not compare yourself, you are growing into the mom you are meant to be!

#13

Know that life comes in seasons, if this is a harder season for you try making a list of things to do every day that will bring you joy, growth, and peace!

#14

If you need help in public, ask another mom! We are all on this journey together!

#15

Have a few ideas up your sleeve for when things get a little crazy! (Hubby and I call it our parenting toolbox—ice cube baths + telling jokes + make something silly)

#16

Protect your mental health. Create space in your life where it’s needed, create opportunities for joy in your home, create structure to allow for time for learning and growth, and create boundaries!

#17

Encourage creativity in your kids (and yourself)! We are all different and that is part of what makes this life beautiful!

#18

Nurture your interests. Bring the things that you love into your home. One of the best parts of being a mom is finding new, exciting ways to connect with your kids!

#19

My best parenting tip: Talk to your kids about the why behind everything. Go deep! Learn together!

#20

Apologize to your kids when you mess up. This shows them that it’s okay to make mistakes and gives you an opportunity to model how to apologize.

#21

Use social media for growth and inspiration. I’m very intentional with who I let speak to me on a regular basis. Find the people that inspire you through social media! If you are looking for positive support, follow me on Instagram!

#22

Learn how to be a good friend and then go be that friend to another mom
